Android skin pack

Typically, I'm not very interested in theming for Windows, and I resist change to my desktop configuration as much as possible. I was convinced today, however, to give it a try with Android Skin Pack 1.0 from Hamed Danger.

Android Skin Pack 1.0 transforms your desktop, disguising the start menu as a notification bar, and adding a launcher dock at the bottom of your screen (albeit with several more icons than its Android counterpart). The pack also comes with a variety of familiar Android icons, a stylish wallpaper, and even spruces up your computer's boot screen.

The theme is a fun tweak for those PC users who have been yearning for a taste of Android on their desktop, and can be implemented using a handy installer package available for download here, and don't worry - if you get tired of the theme, it can be uninstalled easily, and Windows will revert back to normal. If you're not already convinced, just head to the download link and give it a try!

ubuntu skin pack

Ubuntu Skin Pack is a complete Unity-like skin for Windows 7 or XP. There's no Dash, but almost everything else is covered: icons (Humanity for the system and Faenza for the launcher), the Unity launcher, boot and login screen, the Ubuntu font as well as the Ubuntu 11.04 wallpapers.

But of course, being a different OS, the skin pack has a few issues. For instance, the window controls are out of place in Windows 7, this being an old issue that occurs in all such skins. Also, there are no global menu or window controls on the top panel - I'm not sure if that's intended or it's just not possible under Windows.

I don't use Windows so I haven't tested Ubuntu Skin Pack for Windows but if you try it, let us know what you think!

Gnome Skin Pack

is a Windows 7 transformation pack to make your desktop look like Linux. The Skin Pack is part of a transformation packs developed by Hamed, who previously released the iOS, Mac OS X,Windows 8, Android and Windows Phone 7 Mango skin packs. Like other skin packs, it provides a simple wizard that guides you through the installation steps. You won’t need to configure UI elements after installating the skin pack, as it adjusts all the elements automatically.

Note: Please bear in mind that such transformation packs are difficult to uninstall and a systemrestore point will not revert the changes. Before installing the Gnome Skin Pack, make sure that you backup your computer to revert the changes (if required). Moreover, make sure that UAC (User Account Control) is disabled.

To get started, launch the EXE file and accept the terms and conditions. You can either, choose Quick Install or, choose Custom Install to uncheck extra items. It must be noted that this skin pack is ad-supported; it attempts to set the developers home page as your default home page. You can uncheck this option during Custom Installation.

You will find options to install the UXTheme Patch, DLL files and other extra items. You can select all or some of these items before proceeding further. Once done, click Install to start the installation process.

When all of the required components of the skin pack are installed, reboot the system to get the Linux look for your Windows 7 desktop. The following screenshot displays some of the UI elements of Gnome Skin Pack.

It appears that this transformation pack follows the GUI of Gnome 2, as the recently released Gnome 3 supports a more stylish GUI.
